Eczema care

Why eczema is rarely just a skin problem

And what your skin really needs. That's what this page is about.

Skin problems as a complex signal

Eczema understand.

Eczema is not a superficial problem. It is a signal. From a body trying to detoxify what is internally out of balance. Of a system seeking to restore balance. More and more women in their 40s, 50s and 60s recognize it: skin that suddenly can't stand anything. Redness, itching, scaling, burning. Sometimes arising for years, sometimes later in life. Often exacerbated by stress, hormonal changes or an accumulation of treatments.

What if eczema is not failing skin - but an intelligent body that requires a different approach?

why does the skin react?

What is eczema actually?.

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is often described in Western medicine as an inflammatory disorder of the skin with a disrupted skin barrier and an overactive immune system. That's true - but it doesn't explain why the skin reacts this way.

From an integrative approach, we see eczema as the result of multiple processes coming together:

  • a weakened skin barrier
  • increased immune activity
  • neurogenic overstimulation (itching, stress, tension)
  • disturbances in the gut-skin axis

The skin is not a separate organ. It is part of a larger whole.

Gut skin axis

Gut - where eczema often begins.

Because Eczema is an inflammatory response of the skin and the skin responds to the body, we know that the origin of eczema lies deeper than the skin itself. The condition of your gut directly affects inflammation, itching and skin reactions.

And because your gut reacts to what you eat and drink, that largely determines how irritable your skin is. Therefore, an important first step in recovery is the complete omission of:

  • gluten, all dairy, soy and histamine-rich foods, all sugar and all alcohol
  • ingredients that can stress the intestinal system and aggravate eczema.

Removing these stimuli creates space for rest, recovery and better absorption of nutrients.

food for your skin

So how do you eat for beautiful skin?

What you do eat is just as important. Choose Three hot, easily digestible meals per day, rich in vegetables and supplemented with small amounts of brown rice, quinoa or buckwheat, combined with red or yellow lentils (dahl). Use mild, supportive herbs such as cumin, black mustard seed, ginger and turmeric, coriander, black pepper, asafoetida that activate digestion without irritating.

Daily variety is in vegetables, soups, preparation methods and flavors - with attention to bitter, tart, mildly sharp (such as onion and radish), sour and umami, never spicy. This way of eating, inspired by Ayurvedic, Japanese and Oriental nutritional principles, supports the bowels and calms the skin from within.

Zoom in on eczema

Gut-skin axis

The skin is nourished through blood and lymph. Everything that circulates there eventually reaches the skin.

Digestion + skin

When digestive stress is prolonged - due to heavily digestible foods, inflammation in the gut or histamine loading - inadequately digested food particles can enter the bloodstream.

Inflammatory response

The immune system sees these substances as invaders and remains continuously active. The skin then acts as an outlet. Eczema in this sense is not an accident, but an attempt at relief.

Customers are happy with our skincare because they can finally put something on their skin without prickling or reaction. Eczema skin tolerates our skincare.

Why eczema skin 'can't stand anything anymore'

In eczema, a two-sided strain occurs:

From within

  • inflammatory substances in the blood
  • increased histamine activity
  • stress response through the nervous system

From the outside

  • an open skin barrier
  • increased fluid loss
  • extreme sensitivity to cosmetics, water, temperature and light

The skin gets caught in a vicious cycle: the more stimuli, the stronger the reaction.

Eczema often worsens due to:

  • foaming cleansers and detergents
  • synthetic substances
  • overtreatment
  • supposedly "mild" products that still strip

pure ingredients

What eczema skin does need

Restoration of eczema skin does not require aggression, but rather intelligence and tranquility.

1. Barrier Restoration

Skin needs:

  • less itching
  • skin-identical lipids
  • deep hydration
  • very gentle peelings that nourish
  • protection of cells from inflammation
  • protection against moisture loss

2. Ignition Calming

Both locally (skin) and systemically (body), calming is essential. Skin that is continuously "on" cannot recover. And in the process refers the eczema skin to the intestines. These need to settle down and no stimuli receive more. The food you eat is a first aid.

3. Simplicity

The fewer products, the fewer stimuli. A minimalist routine with multifunctional steps gives the skin room to function again.

soothing

Pure skincare for eczema.

Not every natural skincare is suitable for eczema.

But thoughtful, pure formulas without synthetic load can actually provide support.

In practice, we see that some eczema skins respond well to routines that:

  • do not contain detergents (soap, oil-to-milk or soapless)
  • Do not use alcohol or synthetic fragrances
  • working with anti-inflammatory botanicals
  • not force the skin, but guide it

For many women, this means for the first time: rest.
