Understanding dry skin

What is dry skin?

Dry skin often feels tight and fragile, sometimes right after cleansing. The pores are fine and barely visible, while the skin can feel tight, as if it has too little space. Fine lines and expression wrinkles become visible more quickly, and the skin often lacks suppleness and radiance. In some periods, scaling may occur or a burning, unsettled feeling may develop.

With proper, natural care, the skin can regain its resilience and comfort step by step.

restore balance in moisture and lipids

Where does a dry skin come from?

Dry skin is rarely just a skin problem. At its core, there is a disrupted skin barrier and a lack of skin's own lipids, which prevents the skin from retaining moisture properly.

At the same time, what happens ín the body (read > intestines) plays a big role. Factors such as:

  • digestion,
  • nutrition,
  • absorption of nutrients,
  • stress and hormonal changes directly affect the condition of the skin.

Therefore, dry skin requires not only our skincare routine to an approach that goes beyond the outside.

Understanding the layers of dry skin

When we look at the skin, we see that it consists of three main layers: the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutis. Dry skin is mainly affected by changes in the epidermis and dermis.

  • Epidermis:

The outer layer of skin responsible for barrier function. In dry skin, this barrier function is disrupted, leading to increased moisture loss and dryness. In addition, there may be structural problems in the absorption of nutrients from the body to the skin. As a result, absorption of moisture and nutrients in the small intestine is less effective in people with dry skin, resulting in insufficient hydration and nutrition from within.

  • Dermis:

The middle skin layer containing collagen and elastin, responsible for firmness and elasticity. Decreased blood flow in this layer can contribute to a lack of skin nutrition and hydration. Due to decreased blood circulation, essential nutrients and moisture do not reach the skin sufficiently.

  • Subcutis:

The deepest layer of skin, composed mainly of fatty tissue, provides insulation and protection. In dry skin, this layer is thinner.

4 main causes of dry skin

What causes dry skin?

Dry skin can have several causes:

  • Nutrition: Inadequate intake of essential fatty acids (Omega 3-6-9), vitamins (A, B, C and E), minerals and trace elements can contribute to dry skin. Nutrition plays a crucial role in hydrating and nourishing the skin from within.
  • Circulation: Decreased blood circulation can cause the skin to not receive enough nutrients and oxygen, contributing to dryness.
  • Dehydration: Exposure to cold, wind, sun and dry air can dry out the skin. Frequent contact with water and soap can also remove natural skin oils, leading to dryness.
  • Moisture retention capacity: Even with adequate water intake, dry skin can occur when the skin cannot retain moisture properly. This is often the result of a disrupted skin barrier.

Taking care of your dry skin?

When the skin is structurally dry, it may indicate reduced nutrient absorption or an overloaded system.

A diet that supports the gut - with warm, easily digestible meals and plenty of vegetables - helps reduce inflammation and dehydration from within.

Combined with our skincare, the skin can recover, become stronger and more responsive to care.

need of the skin

What does a dry skin really need?

Dry skin needs recovery, nutrition and protection, not to aggressive stimuli. Care should include:

  • replenishing skin's own fats
  • restoring the skin barrier
  • retaining moisture without sealing the skin
  • calming sensitivity
