What changes in your lips after age 50?

You don't see it right away. But one morning you look in the mirror and see: your lips look narrower. The color is fainter. Fine lines appear above your lip. Lipstick pulls away into it. Your mouth seems tighter, drier, less soft. What's happening here?

As a skin expert and founder of MOTHR EARTH PROOF®, I see these changes in my clients every day. And I also see how, with attention and knowledge, you can make your lips fuller, softer and healthier again - without botox, fillers or lipstick.

Why do your lips change after age 50?

Lips are largely made up of connective tissue, fine muscles and a highly circulated mucosa. Starting at age 50, a lot changes in your body

:
  • Less collagen and elastin make the skin around your mouth weaker

  • Reduced blood flow causes sallow color and less volume

  • Slower digestion leads to less absorption of nutrients, with direct impact on your skin and lips

  • Stiffer facial muscles (around your mouth) create more expression lines

  • Hormonal changes reduce the fat layer in your lips

In Eastern medicine, this process is viewed holistically. There they see lips as a mirror of your blood production and digestion. When the energy of your digestion decreases, the quality of your blood decreases - and it shows in your mouth. Less bloom, less color, less suppleness.

How do you keep your lips healthy and plump?

The good news: you can slow or even partially reverse this process. Without injectables. Without makeup. By lovingly caring for your lips daily - inside and out.

1. Activate your circulation with cupping

Lips become more beautiful when they are well supplied with blood. Cupping around the mouth is a powerful, natural way to stimulate this. It

:
  • Activates blood and lymph flow

  • Soothes stiff muscles around the mouth

  • Improves absorption of your lip care

  • Instantly provides fuller, fresher lips

  • Reduces fine lines around the mouth

Cupping is an age-old technique that you can easily apply at home. We recommend soft silicone cups and our Step 3 Elixir Vitamin Bomb as a nourishing lubricant. Your lips need lots of nourishment after cupping. So this oil is perfect.

2. Take care of your lips daily with LipSerum Kiss Me Now

Our LipSerum Kiss Me Now is specially designed for women 40+. This 100% natural lip conditioner

:
  • Restores chapped and dry lips.

  • Nourishes intensely with shea butter, cocoa butter, blackcurrant and sea buckthorn berry

  • Softens fine dry lines with chamomile and calendula

  • Protects against aging with antioxidants (vitamin E, rice wax)

  • Gives a subtle glow with a refreshing taste of strawberry, mandarin and mint

Use it as a restorative serum, as a glossy finish or as a daily care. And put it in your bag for travel.

3. Work in layers with our 4-step routine

Lips are part of your face. And your face needs nourishment. Our 4-step skincare routine helps restore your skin barrier, hydrates intensely and nourishes with plant-based vitamins. Especially our:

  • Step 2 | SKIN DRINK Serum hydrates deep into the skin layer.

  • Step 3 | ELIXIR Vitamin Bomb nourishes with powerful fatty acids and antioxidants

  • Step 4 | REPAIR Timeless Beauty contains Ectoin, which helps with cell renewal and protection against dryness and sun damage.

Use these products around your mouth as well for a visibly smoother, more supple skin appearance.

4. Nourish your lips from the inside out

Nutrition plays a key role in lip health. What does your body need?

  • B vitamins (especially B2, B3, B5 and PABA) for soft lips

  • Zinc & copper for skin structure repair

  • Iron & selenium for blood flow and regeneration

  • Sufficient fatty acids (omega 3) for suppleness

Make sure your gut is working properly - because without proper absorption, no beautiful lips. Avoid coffee, sugar and alcohol if your lips feel dry easily.

5. Protect your lips daily

Use a natural lip care product with antioxidants and vegetable waxes. And don't forget your lips when applying SPF! Sun makes lip skin thinner and more vulnerable. A wide-brimmed hat works wonders.

In conclusion

Your lips should be seen. Even after you turn 50. Without fillers, without elevators. With attention, care and softness. Give your lips some love every day. And let them bloom again.

With love,
Andrea
