What my visit to Sephora in Girona taught me about skincare
Yesterday I was walking through the Sephora in Girona. My kids wanted to browse among the makeup and perfume - and so I walked with them, curious about the offerings. Jar after jar, bottle after bottle. An overwhelming array of colors, handsome branding, shiny packaging and promises that whispered: buy me, spread me, look like me.
And as I stood there, I realized: I can't do this anymore. I don't believe it anymore.
The ingredient lists - full of synthetics, "safe within the legal standard," yes - but what does that even mean, when glyphosate and PFAS are also allowed within the legal standard? My skin doesn't want this anymore. And neither do I. I need no perfumes, no fillers, no preservatives that do more harm than good. No "effects" that nourish nothing, restore nothing, contribute nothing of substance: except itching, pain on my skin, watery eyes, skin irritation, a damaged skin barrier.
